Pupils:
"Students are happy, confident and articulate. They respect the environment and each other. Cooperative, considerate relationships are evident amongst the different age groups. Students are encouraged to express their opinions and to share their knowledge and experiences with others. School information about students' achievement in numeracy and literacy indicates that the majority of students achieve at or above levels expected for their age.

Teachers:
"Teachers explicitly teach a wide range of thinking skills and strategies appropriate to the students' age and ability levels. These thinking tools are used across the curriculum and enable students to make decisions about their learning and what they need to do next to progress further.

Teachers work with students to select contexts for learning that are motivational because they are meaningful to students. Students contribute actively to their learning and planning reflects students' decisions about what they would like to learn."

A place and context for learning:
"The school provides authentic contexts for student learning. An area of the school known as  The Ridge is currently the focus of much of the school curriculum. Students have written and published stories about their native creatures on the ridge, and have designed and built homes and feeding stations for its inhabitants. The Ridge is a model for increasing partnerships with whanau and community as community experts share their skills and knowledge to enhance student
learning. ”

A well resourced learning environment:
"The school environment is well resourced to support learning. Students have access to a range or purposeful charts, library texts and a dedicated computer pod.

Well resourced classrooms increase opportunities for teachers to explore innovative ways to engage students within their programmes. Student work is displayed to stimulate new learning and ways of thinking about learning."
