Read the thoughts, memories and comments from one of our treasured Y6 bilingual (able to speak two languages) students leaving Bayswater School at the end of the term.

Akira's Story
Japan

Earliest Memory: I've almost forgotten about being a junior at Bayswater School but I do remember that I tied up my teacher's shoelaces while the class was sitting on the mat. She was really annoyed with me.

Favourite Memory: I love playing with my friends at the playtime. We are lucky to have a lot of trees and a big field to run around in. Also the Year 5/6 Camp was so much fun. There were lots of activities, great food and we played lots of games. It was a real adventure for me.

Challenge in Being Bilingual: When you need to spell or sound out words or you know the word but you don't know how to describe it.

Benefits in Being Bilingual: Having Japanese as my first language feels special because I can speak it with my family. In the future I'll be able to have two languages that I am confident in and good at speaking.

Achievements at Bayswater: I have improved a great deal in my writing. I find writing in English and Japanese difficult so I am proud that I have done well this year.

Hopes for the Future: I hope to get better in English. I'm not sure if I'll study at university as I'm still working on my career plan.
