Tena Koutou te Whanau!

Welcome to Room 1!

We are one of the year 2 and 3 classes at Bayswater School. Our teachers are Dianne Cluett and Catherine Ford. The teacher aide working in Room 1 is Peta Lynn. Our goal is to work together as a healthy learning community. We aim to become independent motivated learners.

Our Week

We start the week by sharing our news with each other. Every day we write, sometimes with the teacher, or independently. Our fitness is important to us so we participate in fitness activities 3 times a week. In maths we usually work on our number knowledge and the strategies we use to solve problems.  After morning tea we do a mixture of shared, guided and independent reading. We also work on our spelling and handwriting skills.

During the afternoon, we focus on our Learning Pathways, which may have music, arts, ICT, PE, an environmental, science or social science focus.  We also go to the library on Wednesday afternoons and participate in music and PE.  On Friday afternoon we learn from one another about life skills as we share our feelings and ideas in a safe sharing circle. We also learn about environmental issues and may even actively participate in looking after our own school environment.

Homework
From  Monday to Thursday, we bring home our reading book. This may be a guided text which has been introduced by the teacher, or a familiar text which has been chosen from our fluency box. On Wednesdays we bring home a library book and on Fridays a poem to share. Our reading books need to be returned to school every day. Library books should be returned by Wednesday morning and poetry books need to be returned to school by Friday. We also take home spelling words and basic maths facts to practice so we can apply this knowledge when we participate in classroom writing and maths activities.

Kia kaha!
