We are the year 2 classes at
Bayswater School. Our teachers are
Dianne Cluett and Michelle Holm. The
teacher aides are Coral and Sharon.
Our goal is to work together as a
healthy learning community. We aim
to become independent motivated
learners.
Our Week
We start the week by sharing our
news with each other. Every day we
write, sometimes with the teacher,
or independently. Our fitness is
important to us so we participate in
fitness activities twice a week. In
maths we usually work on our number
knowledge and the strategies we use
to solve problems. After morning
tea we do a mixture of shared,
guided and independent reading. We
also work on our spelling and
handwriting skills.
During the afternoon, we focus on
our Learning Pathways, which may
have a music, arts, ICT, PE,
environmental studies, science or
social science focus. We also go to
the library once a week and
participate in singing, Maori and
PE. On Friday afternoon we learn
from one another about life skills
as we share our feelings and ideas
in a safe sharing circle. We also
learn about environmental issues and
may even actively participate in
looking after our own school
environment.
Homework
On Mondays we bring home Chunk,
Check, Cheer spelling words and from
Monday to Thursday, we bring home
our reading book. This may be a
guided text which has been
introduced by the teacher, or a
familiar text which has been chosen
from our fluency box. Once a week
we bring home a library book and on
Fridays a poem to share. Our
reading books need to be returned to
school every day.
Haere rā!
